In an effort to help heal South Los Angeles’ vastly deprived community, UMMA hosts yearly events, offering health and social services to those in need. These events help showcase the quality services that UMMA has proudly been providing for 20 years, and will continue to provide for years to come.
Health Fairs
UMMA’s health fairs are semi-annual events, inviting community members to engage in pro-active efforts to improve their health. Medical services are provided at no cost by UMMA’s network of volunteer providers.
Services include, but are not limited to, cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose and diabetes screenings, vaccinations, and health education. UMMA also partners with local social service organizations, providing informational booths to help people enroll in public service programs. To view our schedule, click here.
Immunization
UMMA provides immunizations for its community partners. Currently our clinic is working with the John C. Fremont High School to help students receive the Tdap vaccine before the school year. UMMA also collaborates with the 68th Street elementary school to provide immunization clinics for new and returning students. All special immunization student events are free of charge.
Mammography
California to provide breast exams and mammograms to uninsured women in our community. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in the United States, and the risk is even higher among Hispanic and African-American women, who make up the majority of our patient population.
Income Tax Clinic
Beyond providing medical care, UMMA also works to expand access to non-medical services to our patients and local residents. At our annual Income tax clinic, volunteer accountants donate their time and expertise to help community members fill out their taxes. This assistance is provided at no cost to those who ordinarily could not afford such services.
Community Presentations
UMMA also provides educational presentations covering various health topics to community organizations and centers, faith-based organizations and schools. Presentations are conducted to increase awareness and knowledge of health conditions; provide tangible tools to support healthy lifestyles; and increase knowledge of services available at the UMMA Community Clinic.
Chronic Disease Prevention Workshop
If you’re an UMMA patient living with a chronic disease or condition, we can help.
Learn how to live better with a chronic disease or illness by signing up for our 6-week chronic disease self-management program. There will be a two and a half hour class each week for six weeks led by two trained leaders.

Diabetes Education & Counseling
We currently offer two individual diabetes education and counseling sessions to all UMMA patients. All sessions require an appointment and patients primarily participate by provider referral.
